Chandler is a Northern Highbush blueberry known for very large berries and an extended mid-to-late-season harvest. The medium- to dark-blue fruit has good firmness, a good picking scar, and good flavor when fully ripe.

Chandler Blueberry Highlights

  • Harvest: Mid to late season over a long ripening window.
  • Fruit: Very large, medium to dark blue, with good firmness and flavor.
  • Plant habit: Moderately vigorous and slightly spreading; typically about 5–6 feet with pruning.
  • Climate fit: Listed for USDA Zones 4–7 with a 500–1,000-hour chill range.
  • Plant: Supplied as one plant in the seasonal dormant-plant program.

Pollination

Chandler is generally self-fertile, but another Northern Highbush cultivar with overlapping bloom can improve berry size and yield. Consider Legacy or Bluecrop.

Planting and Care

Plant in full sun and acidic, well-drained soil, ideally around pH 4.5–5.5. Keep soil evenly moist and mulch the shallow roots. Berry size can vary when plants are heavily cropped. Avoid forcing lush late-season growth, and maintain good cane spacing, because young Chandler plants can be sensitive to bacterial blight.
