Black Monukka is a seedless Vitis vinifera table grape valued for elongated clusters of crisp, sweet, purple-black fruit. The grapes are suited to fresh eating and drying as raisins. This product is one dormant bare-root vine.

Black Monukka grape vine details

  • Plant form: One dormant bare-root grape vine
  • USDA hardiness zones: 6–10
  • Pollination: Self-fruitful; a second grape variety is not required for fruit set
  • Harvest: Commonly late summer into early fall; timing varies with climate and growing conditions
  • Pruning: Cane prune during dormancy and train on a sturdy trellis, arbor, or wire system
  • Fruit: Medium seedless berries with dark purple-black skin and crisp, sweet flesh

Planting and care

Plant in full sun, with at least seven to eight hours of direct light, in soil that drains well. Provide permanent support before vigorous growth begins. Water deeply after planting and as needed during establishment, allowing excess water to drain. Annual dormant pruning is essential because grape clusters form on shoots arising from one-year-old wood.

Harvest and shipping notes

Grapes do not continue to ripen after harvest, so taste fruit on several clusters before picking. A dormant bare-root vine may arrive leafless; that is normal for the seasonal shipping form. Local weather, pruning, vine age, and care affect establishment and harvest timing.
