Oyster Mushroom Grow Kits
Oysters are the fastest and most forgiving mushrooms you can grow. They colonise aggressively, tolerate a wide range of conditions, and go from cutting the bag to harvest in about a week. The main thing to get right is matching the variety to your room temperature - blue oysters like it cool, pink oysters want it genuinely warm, and putting either in the wrong room is the usual reason a kit disappoints.

Growing oysters well
- Match variety to room. This is the whole decision. A pink oyster in a 62°F room will barely pin.
- They demand fresh air. Oysters are among the most CO2-sensitive species - poor exchange gives long stems and small caps immediately.
- Harvest before the caps flatten and the edges turn up. That is also when spore drop begins, and oysters drop a lot.
- Spore load is real. A fruiting oyster block puts noticeable spore into a small room. Ventilate, and reconsider a bedroom.
- 2-3 flushes per block; soak between them.
What to skip
- Fruiting pink oysters in a cool room, or blue oysters in a hot one. Temperature match matters more than anything else here.
- Letting them mature fully indoors. The spore drop is heavy and shelf life collapses.
- Storing pink oysters more than a couple of days. They are the shortest-lived oyster by a wide margin.
