Silica (SiO₂) is a naturally occurring mineral found in rocks, sand, and soil that can enter water supplies through erosion, industrial runoff, or agricultural activity. While not typically a health hazard at low levels, high concentrations of silica—especially colloidal and reactive forms—can cause scaling in pipes, damage filtration systems, and lead to aesthetic issues like glass etching. Traditional removal methods like reverse osmosis or ion exchange are often costly and not fully effective for all silica forms.
Crystal Quest® systems using Trapp XT media provide a highly efficient solution for silica removal. Made from 99.99% pure magnesium oxide, Trapp XT beads use advanced adsorption and ion exchange to capture silica, phosphates, ammonia, and heavy metals. This media also naturally raises water pH without chemicals, helping to reduce corrosion and scaling.
