Liberty is a late-season Northern Highbush blueberry that extends the harvest after many midseason cultivars finish. Its medium-to-large, bright-blue berries are firm, aromatic, and sweet-tart when fully ripe.

Liberty Blueberry Highlights

  • Blueberry type: Northern Highbush
  • Harvest: Late season; ripening dates vary by location.
  • Fruit: Medium to large, bright blue, firm, with a small picking scar.
  • Plant habit: Vigorous and upright; mature plants may benefit from support.
  • Climate fit: Listed for USDA Zones 4–7 with a 500–1,000-hour chill range.
  • Plant: Supplied as one plant in the seasonal dormant-plant program.

Pollination

Liberty is generally self-fertile, but planting another Northern Highbush cultivar with overlapping bloom can improve berry size and yield. Consider Legacy or Chandler.

Planting and Care

Plant in full sun and acidic, well-drained soil, ideally around pH 4.5–5.5. Maintain even moisture and mulch the shallow root zone. Good spacing, cane renewal, and sanitation are especially useful in regions where cane diseases are common. Fruit can soften in high temperatures, so harvest fully colored berries promptly during hot weather.
