Katsura Pieris is a dense upright evergreen shrub with wine red new growth that matures to a glossy dark green. The drooping clusters of lilac buds emerge in summer and persist through winter before finally blooming into rose pink flowers in spring . Best bloom in part sun with slightly acidic and moist well-drained soils.

MAINTENANCE NEEDS: High Maintenance. Water regularly. Remove spent flowers immediately. Lace bug infections can be a serious problem. Watch for scale, mites, and nematodes. Dieback and leaf spots are occasional problems.
