Bluegold is a midseason Northern Highbush blueberry with large, light-blue berries, firm texture, and very good flavor. The vigorous plant has a compact, somewhat squat habit and can fit smaller edible landscapes with appropriate pruning.

Bluegold Blueberry Highlights

  • Harvest: Midseason; timing varies by region.
  • Fruit: Large, light blue, firm, with a small picking scar.
  • Plant habit: Vigorous and compact with a somewhat spreading structure.
  • Climate fit: Listed for USDA Zones 4–8 with a 500–1,000-hour chill range.
  • Plant: Supplied as one plant in the seasonal dormant-plant program.

Pollination

Bluegold is generally self-fertile, but another Northern Highbush cultivar with overlapping bloom can improve berry size and yield. Consider Bluecrop or Draper.

Planting and Care

Grow in full sun and acidic, well-drained soil, ideally around pH 4.5–5.5. Keep the shallow root zone evenly moist and mulched. Bluegold is susceptible to Blueberry shock virus in regions where that disease occurs; use clean planting stock, avoid unnecessary movement of plant material, and follow local extension guidance if symptoms appear.
